NEWS
A great deal has happened since I wrote the spring newsletter.

In January we heard the sad news, that Jim Phelps had died. Many of us attended the funeral and a collection was made for the RSPB, as Diana and the family had requested. Jim was a staunch supporter of the group for many years, and his stamina (not to mention the walks he led) were legendary. He will be sadly missed.

In memory of Jim, it has been suggested that we lead one of Jim’s favourite walks sometime in the Autumn. More details will become available in the next programme.

On another note, I regret to inform you all that after much deliberation I reluctantly decided to hand over my committee responsibilities with effect from the beginning of March. It was not an easy decision to take, however a series of unfortunate events persuaded me the group would be best served if I stood down. I was therefore surprised and touched by the generous gift of garden vouchers which John Hartley presented to me at the social dinner on 29th February. My grateful thanks go to you all.

I hope to join the group on walks later in the year, once I have sorted out my own affairs. Meanwhile I would ask you all to support our loyal and dedicated committee in every way possible.

On 20th July, we host our annual walk for the London Blind Club. This year we are going back to Milton Keynes. We are going to use a guide from the MK Parks Trust to give us a guided walk and talk in the area. We will meet our guests at the MK station at 10.30am, and proceed by car to the start point. If you can help, please let Tracey and Dom know.

Enjoy the programme of events.
